Summary: Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, is used to being alone, until one day a girl with auburn hair waltzes into his life…
“So, what did he say?” Lucy asked as Nico returned from talking with a local.
“He said that if we wanted to learn anything about the history of this town, we would have to go to the Sisters at the orphanage; some of them remember the tales their grandparents told them about years ago,” came his reply.
“Did he tell you where we could find the orphanage?” asked Peter.
Nico nodded as he pulled out a map they had bought and showed them the place circled by the man. “It’s there, and we’re down here.”
Reyna glanced up at the sky. “I don’t think we’ll have much time to get there today, the sun is getting low in the sky.”
Peter nodded. “Alright, well, at least we have a clue to start on tomorrow. Good work, Nico.”
Nico gave a slight smile at the praise as he folded up the map and stuck it in his back pocket. Then he, Lucy, Peter, and Reyna – a Praetor of Camp Jupiter – began heading back to the TARDIS. A few blocks down the street, Nico began to feel like they were being watched. He glanced around, and noticed that the others were getting the same feeling since they were glancing around just as nervously.
“Do you think it’s them?” Lucy whispered as they walked more briskly down the street.
Peter nodded, then he happened to glance down an alley, and his eyes grew big. He ducked into a shop with the others close behind.
“What is it? Did you see one?” Reyna whispered hoarsely as the group weaved in and out of the shelves.
Peter nodded. “They must have realized that we’re looking for the same thing and might not attack us until we’ve found it, or they’re going to keep us from finding it. Either way, we’ve got to get back to the TARDIS without letting them know where it is. Listen, I know they saw me and they probably saw Reyna, too, since we’re the tallest. We’ll leave first so that we can get their attention and have them follow us. Once they’re gone, you two head straight to the TARDIS and warn the Doctor.”
“But I want to go with you. What if something happens to you?” Lucy asked worriedly.
Peter sighed. “Lucy, you can’t leave Nico alone in case the Angels try to overpower him. You keep each other safe, alright?”
Lucy glanced at Nico before sighing and nodding. Peter pulled her in for a hug, then motioned to Reyna to follow.
Reyna patted Nico’s shoulder. “Stay sharp, stay focused, and use the shadows.” Then she rose and followed Peter out of the shop.
Nico and Lucy waited for what seemed like forever when several thumps on the roof startled them. The two glanced out the front window, and saw two Angels on the roof of the shop across the street. They looked back to the roof they were under, and heard a few more sounds, sounds that made Nico’s heart go into his throat.
“It would have been nice if the Doctor told us they could actually fly with those wings,” mumbled Nico.
Lucy glanced at him, wide-eyed. “They were flying?”
“Yeah, I’d know the sound of beating wings anywhere,” he growled.
Lucy touched his shoulder and pointed out the window. The other Angels were gone from the roof as well.
“Let’s wait a little while before we leave, I want to give them a good head start. It should also give us enough time to warn the Doctor so we can save them,” he added, noting the worried look on Lucy’s face.
She nodded, and the two waited in silence, glancing around the shop to pass the time. Then, Nico touched Lucy’s shoulder and motioned her to follow. They walked briskly out of the shop, checked their surroundings, and bolted down the street, making their way to the TARDIS. They were a few feet from the spot where they had left it when Nico paused. He motioned for Lucy to stand behind him, then glanced around the corner and gasped.
The Angels had already arrived and had the Tardis surrounded. He glanced at the sky nervously; the sun was almost gone when Lucy gave a little shriek. He turned to her, and found himself looking at the outstretched hands of a not-so-nice-looking Angel.
