Mary. Mother of Jesus. That woman everyone looks up to. The lady that is deeply venerated by many religions and nations. A lady of great faith. An icon.
But I am Mary.
Mary was a young woman – some say early teens, based on culture. She was visited by an angel. And it is in this visitation, I see myself.
You see, Mary was afraid when she first saw the angel. The woman who bore Jesus was terrified. She was scared of the angel, of the task ahead. Who wouldn’t be scared when they see an angel? When God sends a personal message to you? The thing is this: God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What does this mean? It means God has a personal message and plan for each one of us.
I believe Mary didn’t see herself as important enough to be the mother of Jesus, Son of God. I mean, who wouldn’t? This is also the part where I am Mary. God has a plan for each one of us, as stated above. But we don’t always feel worthy of it. Does this mean that God will stop using us? No. It means He will continue to use us!
God will use us as He used Mary, yet in varying different ways. He has a purpose and a plan for each of our lives, no matter what our life looks like at the moment.
