~ by Lawrence (Mack) Hall in Texas

A bronze-age Emperor, home from the wars
Master of a thousand chariots
Gives all his children the miracle of words
Like spring wildflowers, summer grass, autumn leaves

So that all our perceptions and imaginings
Can fly up to the heavens and around the earth
As prayers, whispers, letters, books, and songs
And poetry, the quiet voice of God

A scholar-poet inks the Hanzi for us –
In them we see true pictures of our lives
