“Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.” – 1 Peter 2:17
***
I say, God save the King,
For the present must not scorn the past,
But work through her wisdom.
I say, God save the King,
For we are not nourished by bread alone,
But by symbols and signs.
I say God save the King,
For we must both feed the hungry
And break the alabaster jar.
I say, God save the King,
For he has not been chosen by us
And yet stands in our stead.
I say, God save the King,
For we must look higher than ourselves
For our own salvation.
I say, God save the King,
For we are naught but dry bones
Without the moisture of chrism.
I say, God save the King,
For it dares those who would progress
Into godless oblivion.
I say, God save the King,
For he reflects the First Man
And the Second Adam.
I say, God save the King,
For it keeps us humble to bow
Before the arc of hierarchy.
I say, God save the King,
For it keeps privilege subject
Beneath the weight of duty.
I say, God save the King,
For he intertwines the union,
Every Cross combined.
I say, God save the King,
For many are made one in Him
Across these sea-strewn isles.
I say, God save the King,
Whether sat upon his ancient throne
Or exiled to the fens.
I say, God save the King,
Whether standing on the balcony
Or hiding in an oak.
I say, God save the King,
For he marks the passage of time
And the point of eternity.
I say, God save the King
For the sake of his mother and grandfather
And every sovereign passed.
I say, God save the King,
For every soldier in every war
Whose honor ran red.
I say, God save the King
For every victory achieved
And defeat borne.
I say, God save the King
For the hands shaken and gazes met,
People knowing themselves.
I say, God save the King,
For he guards the laws and liberties,
Filling in the gap.
I say, God save the King,
For today, he is wed to Britannia,
And we are her children.
Yes, I say,
God save the King!
Long live the King!
For on this day, we swear allegiance,
And on this day, he is reborn.
